Updated: Nov 15

As you know, Hoi An in recent years has been known to many people because of the exotic charming beauty, along with the ancient culture preserved by the Hoianan people until now. The unique cultural experience which must be mentioned is the festival of flowing colorful  lanterns on the full moon nights of the middle of the lunar month.

On this night, everyone and every house in the center of Hoi An ancient town is aware that each house should turn off the daily lights for a period of the evening.  Then, instead of the yellow lights in front of the house and in the porch, the streets will be lit by lanterns and the moonlight.

This setup is set from the moment the sun sets, usually starting at 6pm and ending at 9:30pm. Furthermore, the Old town streets will welcome only walking snd cycling passengers, by doing this, the town encourage us to slow down, flaneur around and contemplate this beautiful moment and scenery.

Interspersed with the full moon festival nights, you will see more folk games on these walking streets such as blindfolded pot smashing or you will admire calligraphy artists writing Vietnamese proverbs and sayings with very graceful strokes and the ancients often called them "Teacher". - Thầy.

Beside walking on the river bank, we recommend you taking a boat cruise along the river and look at the lantern more closely, blending in the flow of colours and art. Releasing flower lanterns with the river wind and the magical shimmering lights shining on the river creating such a poetic scene, you can indulge yourself with memorable unique photos and footages that can only be found in Hoi An.
